Documenting the garments worn in competition by the women who won the title of Miss America between 1921 when the Pageant began, and 1987 this research compares the garments with what was in fashion as documented in Vogue magazine of the same time. Additionally the symbolism of the garments and the social history of women's fashion are considered. Photographs of contestants in their competition garments as well as images from Vogue magazine are included for comparison.
